My ongoing study of American consumerism has taken a turn recently, toward a darker and more symbolic approach. The immense scale of our consumption can be macabre, oddly comical, full of irony, even strangely beautiful; it also consistently overwhelms me in its complexity. Perhaps our vast piles of junk can serve as metaphors for the difficult questions we must face as the earth's most voracious resource gluttons.
